Consultancy Services for Technical Assistance on Use of Non-conventional Water Resources: Reuse of Treated Wastewater, and Management of Storm Water Harvesting in the Gaza

The overall objective of this project is to facilitate non-conventional water sources for agricultural application and storm water harvesting for aquifer recharge aimed to decrease the actual water stress. The two identified water sources are treated wastewater originated at three wastewater treatment plants as well as collected and possibly treated storm water in the Gaza Strip.

  1. Study the waste water reuse status in the Gaza strip regarding previous projects and institutional setup.
  2. The project evaluated the legal and and institutional setup of water and waste water sector in Palestine and modified and institutional setup for reuse based on the Palestinian laws. Also, the study evaluated storm water management in Gaza and conducted two pilot projects for storm water harvesting. One in home level and the other in street level. Pilot project for waste water reuse conducted with advance treatment unit for 1000 m3/day of partially treated waste water.
